Interviewing Tips
Hicks Consulting Group believes the ultimate GOAL of the interview is to get a job OFFER! During the interview process you will find out what the job requirements really are, meet the manager and get a general feel for the company. But at the end, whether it is the perfect job or not, getting an offer is in your best interest. Below is a list of things our recruiters at Hicks Consulting Group have found that increase the likelihood of getting that offer.
- Be at least 5 minutes early. Nothing puts you at a disadvantage more than making the interviewer wait on you.
- Be prepared! Be sure you have all the details that are available for the job and the company you are interviewing for. Be sure you have all contact information, locations, interview dates and times, projected start date, names and titles of interviewers.
- Be further prepared! Your agency will have only so much information that they can give you about the job and the company. Impress the interviewer by knowing about their company. Go to the company's web site and become familiar with the company. Ask other professionals you may know about the company. This knowledge can be invaluable in an interview and will often set you apart from other candidates.
- Sell yourself! In an interview you need to sell yourself to the manager and it is equally important that they sell you on the job. You can accomplish this by asking open-ended, focused questions. Asking open-ended questions will also result in you coming away well informed about the job and the company, and why you would or would not like to work there.
- At the end of the interview both you and the manager should have some idea of how it went. If the vibes are positive and you are interested in the job, ask for it! If the manager has other interviews and cannot commit, ask where you stand in his list of candidates. Also, if you have other interviews set up there is nothing wrong with letting the manager know so that he is aware of your situation.
Getting interesting contracts that you will feel good about is a selling process. Adopting the objective that you are in every interview to get a JOB OFFER will result in you coming off to the manager in the best possible light.
